Which tour company/package offers the cheapest way to get to South Georgia (British territory)?

September 7, 2010 - 12:46 am 2 Comments

I am referring to the overseas British territory of South Georgia near the Falklands. I know that the only way for an American to get there is by cruise ship. Basically, I want to visit South Georgia and I want the cheapest cruise possible (don’t really care about luxury accommodations, the best food, etc.). A place to sleep and food that isn’t spoiled will be fine. Any suggestions will be welcome.Thanks.

Just Google ‘visit South Georgia’.

Check out New Zealand travel websites too.

What would you do if you were in my shoes?

August 29, 2010 - 4:45 am 3 Comments

Again,I need your wise help.I’ve been offered a job as a switchboard operator in a 5 luxury star hotel in Venice.Actually,it’s a hotel in a lonely island in front of Saint Mark square. The hotel is the only building in the island but there’s a free boat-shuttle service from and to the island to Saint Mark square. The job itself sounds quite interesting and it’s a way to use my English too.
The only problem is that since I don’t live there nor nearby, they can put me up in a shared accomodation with one or two other people.

Unfortunately, the last time I shared an accommodation with somebody,it was a tragic experience and I wouldn’t want it to happen again. What should I do?If you were me,would you accept it or not?
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated and please, tell me if you think my English is good.

Well, is this job better than your current job? If you take the job, will you be able to save enough to quickly move out on your own? BTW, your english is perfect.

What does quote from Adam Smith mean?

August 22, 2010 - 1:56 pm 2 Comments

I’m reading the Wealth of Nations and I think he is saying that the accommodations of a prince could be equal to a peasant. But how is that possible? If I misinterpreted please tell me. 10 points to whoever provides the most help.

Compared, indeed, with the more extravagant luxury of the great, his accommodation must no doubt appear extremely simple and easy; and yet it may be true, perhaps, that the accommodation of an European prince does not always so much exceed that of an industrious and frugal peasant, as the accommodation of the latter exceeds that of many an African king, the absolute masters of the lives and liberties of ten thousand naked savages.

It’s about perspective. The Prince lives a luxurious easy life compared to the peasant. But the Peasant lives like a Prince compare to an African King who may be at the highest position in his world, but has nothing compared to the peasant.

Where should I stay in Tropical North Queensland?

August 17, 2010 - 8:35 pm 3 Comments

My two friends and I want to visit Tropical North Queensland this coming summer for about a week. We’re not looking for full-blown luxury, and we’re after accommodation for less than $700pp. Somewhere like Brompton or Hamilton Island… we’ve never been so would appreciate suggested places, resorts, houses, things to do, holiday packages – anything!

Try the Sanctuary at Mission Beach and forget luxury, enjoy nature and peace and be with it rather than passe resort…all the same. heaps cheaper as well.

You walk through rainforest to beach, sea kayak, meet a cassowary, longe in a hammock. Views to die for.

Just avoid cyclone season and thank me later :0

How do YOU get rid of telemarketers?

August 13, 2010 - 7:29 pm 17 Comments

Just got off the phone to a telemarketer. I was extremely rude to her and I feel pretty slack now.
It was one of those (very polite but thick Indian accent) Congratulations you’ve won two days free accommodation! Yay! The catch is you have to book a week in a luxury hotel on the Gold-coast in the middle of winter that you don’t want in the first place.
Any tips or funny stories about getting rid of them?

well,, either:
1.you can have a little fun && mess w/em,, or start talking to em,, or s/thing like that,, ITS FUN. :D

–OR–
2.just tell them that your not interested && to take you off the call list.

How does one "book passage" on a cargo or other non-luxury ship?

August 8, 2010 - 10:30 pm 1 Comment

I’ve heard about this as an inexpensive (though slow) way to get across the ocean, "booking passage" on a freighter or cargo ship. How does one do this? I know the accommodations would be pretty Spartan, and the food wouldn’t be wonderful, but it’d be cheaper than flying.

If you tap "cargo ship travel" into your search engine you will find links to quite a few web sites with all the information you need!
