Is a bus tour on chicago a fun thing to do for someone in their 40’s? Airport hotel?

July 20, 2010 - 7:37 am 8 Comments

I am a pretty low key person. A bunch of people are going to chicago for a wedding and then into the city the next day. They are going on a bus tour in the daytime. They’re planning to stay at an airport hotel. I’m concerned the bus tour will be rowdy and hectic, and the airport hotel might be in a bad area or too noisy. What do you think?

I think you’ll enjoy the bus tour, actually. I’ve only taken two such "bus tours" in my life (I’m 43 years old), and both of them were pretty docile. While I’d never admit to liking a "bus tour", what appealed to me about it was that I didn’t have to pay attention to driving, so I could gawk at whatever the guide was pointing out.

I frequently stay at the Hilton Chicago O’Hare, which is the closest hotel to the airport, and I’ve never had a problem with the noise. Most airport hotels are intentionally built near the airport, and so they take that into consideration and usually build in things that will reduce the noise levels. (The only airport hotel that didn’t do this well was the Ramada in Memphis. It’s right under the departure from the main runway used by FedEx, so all night long you hear planes roaring above the hotel taking off…but I digress…)

I think if most of the people are flying in from out-of-town, an airport hotel is actually a good idea.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Cheapest way to go to hotel from airport in Frankfurt?

July 11, 2010 - 3:34 pm 2 Comments

Hey guys, what’s the cheapest and most convenient way to go to the hotel from the airport in Frankfurt? There are 5 of us so do you recommend taxi or whatever? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I would recommend to use the S Bahn it takes the same time a taxi would take and it is cheaper than taking a taxi.

Also most taxis in Germany have a limit of 3 or 4 passengers unless it is an extra large car that means you would need to take 2 taxis.

Go to the Etienne Marcel Metro station and take Line 4 Direction : Porte d’Orleans (General Leclerc) to the Denfert-Rochereau stop.

You then take the Orlybus, which goes to Orly-Sud and Orly-Ouest. The one-way Orlybus fare is €5,80.

What is the cheapest airport shuttle from SFO airport to a hotel?

July 2, 2010 - 10:36 pm 4 Comments

Round trip. Airport to hotel then back. two adults.
Staying downtown or Fisherman’s Wharf. Two adults. Round trip

Tonalc gave you the scoop on shuttles.

If you are staying in the Union Square, Embarcadero, or Financial Districts and don’t have a lot of luggage you can take BART from SFO to within just a few blocks of your hotel. $8+ per person each way.

Public transpotation from Montreal airport to Hotel?

June 27, 2010 - 7:34 pm 2 Comments

Is there a subway or bus that runs from the airport to the Delta Hotel on Kennedy? I see that the taxi ride is a little expensive.

If taking public transit, your best best would be to take one of the buses (blue and white) that’s very near the arrivals gate (ask any airport official there; they’re very helpful). If I remember correctly, it’s #201 or #211. This will take you to Lionel-Groulx métro station, where you can then hop on and go to McGill Station (University St.) Alternatively, you could try to take the commuter train into downtown–it’s faster than riding the bus–but your timing would have to be just right; the bus is more frequent.

HTH, and have fun!

What’s the Best Method to Go From Kansai Airport to Hotel?

Which is the easiest way to get from the KIX Airport to Hearton Hotel in Osaka?

Cab or bus?

Also, what’s the fare likely to be? And how exactly do we go about it? Do we just get on the bus and drop the yen into the box like in European buses?

Which Hearton Hotel in Osaka? There are three of them!

Do not take a cab, Kansai Airport is outside the city and it will be expensive to take the cab.

Fare in the box is for local city buses. Airport buses are also known as "Limousine Bus" in Japan. The bus from the airport is a special express/highway bus different from a local city bus.
There are bus ticket counters in the airport where you can buy tickets from, return tickets can usually be purchased from the hotel or at the bus stop at a machine.

There are three Hearton Hotels in Osaka:
—————————————————————
Hotel 1:
If you are staying at the Hearton Hotel Nishi Umeda
Option 1 (best option).
You can take a Limousine Bus from Kansai Airport to Hebis Hotel Osaka, then walk to the hotel from there. The bus will cost 620yen.

Option 2.
You can take a JR Special Rapid train from Kansai Airport to Osaka Station and walk to the hotel from the station (as above). Note that the Special Rapid train is a regular commuter train that can get packed with regular commuters as you go from the airport to the city. This is why I say taking the Limousine Bus is better, as you get a seat with lots of luggage space.

(The hotel is near the Post Office on the map below)

If you take the Limousine Bus get off at HERBIS OSAKA.

*You do not want to take the Haruka Limited Express train because this train does not stop at Osaka Station, it will stop at ShinOsaka Station then you will have to backtrack to Osaka Station. Best to take the limousine bus to Herbis Osaka for 620yen.

Hotel 2:
If you are staying at the Hearton Hotel Shinsaibashi:

Take the Nakai Train to Namba Station.
At Namba Station, change to the Osaka City Subway Midosuji line to Shinsaibashi Station. At Shinsaibashi Station use exit C7.

Hotel 3:
If you are staying at the Hearton Hotel Minami Senba:
Use the directions as in (Hotel 2) but use exit number 1 instead.

Best way to get from the airport to hotel?

June 5, 2010 - 8:40 am 6 Comments

My husband and I will be going to Veagas in March and I’m wondering what is the easiest way to get to the Paris hotel, from the airport?

You don’t say if you are renting a car. The car rental companies are in a central building off site. Shuttle buses will take you there for free. They run constantly 24/7. Otherwise I recommend a taxi. They have lots of shuttles and they seem like a good deal but they aren’t if you consider you will be sitting on the shuttle while they stop at all the other hotels to drop people off and when it’s time to go back to the airport you have to remember to call the day before to schedule a pickup.

Just take a taxi .. I know the line will seem long as forever but it moves very quickly and tell you driver to get you to the Paris a quick as possible. Do not let him or her take you on the freeway … or through the tunnel. Do not take the scenic route … just get you to the hotel. You will find it will cost the same for a taxi as two shuttle round trip tickets.

How far from Charles De Gaulle Airport is the Marriott hotel in Colombes (Paris), France?

June 1, 2010 - 11:43 am 3 Comments

I am travelling to Paris (France) for the first time next week. I have a reservation with the Marriott hotel whose address is given as "91, Blvd Charles De Gaulle, Colombes, 92700 France". Could someone please let me know the following:
1) How far is the above hotel from the Charles De Gaulle airport?
2) What is the transportation from airport to hotel? How much is the approximate cost?

I certainly hope you are staying at this hotel because you have business in Colombes or La Defense and not because you are under the impression that it is suitable for a tourist visiting Paris.

If you are, in fact, on a vacation to Paris then change your hotel reservation immediately. Many Paris taxi drivers won’t even drive out there as it is simply too far away from the city of Paris.

To get there from the airport by public transportation you need to take the RER B to Chatelet change to the RER A to La Defense then get on Bus 378 to the Buffon stop. The entire ordeal will take about an hour excluding the time you spend waiting for train or bus to arrive. At least it isn’t very expensive. the RER ride will cost 8.40 € and the bus will cost 1.60 €
